On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 the Mico University College (MUC) signed a memorandum of understanding with Sterling Asset Management (SAM) regarding the Caribbean Centre for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching (CCEMAT ) pilot project phase II being implemented in eight primary schools across the island.

Sterling Asset Management has partnered with the University College in phase II of the pilot Mathematics Enhancement Programme contributing five hundred thousand dollars in sponsorship (J$500,000). This amount represents the second pay out of a three year commitment from the organization towards the three year project which is scheduled to end in 2019.

The International Mathematics Enhancement Programme (MEP) was developed by the Centre of Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CiMT), Plymouth University, based on International best practices observed in mathematically high achieving countries such as Hungary, Finland, Singapore, Russia and Japan. The Programme will ensure the development of teacherssubject knowledge in Mathematics and provide all participating teachers with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure that they are equipped with the requisite skills needed to effectively integrate the MEP resources in their mathematics lessons
