Professor the Honourable Errol Laurence Miller, OJ, CD, assumes the position of Chancellor of having had a distinguished career in education locally, regionally and internationally.
This brilliant educator has had significant impact on education, through research and publication and his seminal work has influenced educational policies.
As Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Jamaica, he has provided the leadership for the implementation of major reforms such as:

  • The implementation of free secondary and tertiary education;
  • The integration of school serving children with various disabilities into the public system;
  • The addition of grades 10 and 11 to 66 three-year secondary schools.

Professor Miller’s enviable record of service to Education and the Public Service included the following:

  • Head of the institute of Education, UWI;
  • Head of the Department of Teacher Education, UWI;
  • Professor of Teacher Education, UWI;
  • Principal of The Mico College;
  • President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association;
  • Chairman of the Electoral Advisory Committee;
  • Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica.

A passionate Caribbean man, Professor Errol Miller advocates for linkages among Caribbean institutions that train teachers.
In the Caribbean, he stated that;
“The CSME should not be only an economic arrangement, but the construction of a Caribbean identity, solidarity and destiny.”

For his work, Professor Errol Miller has earned numerous awards locally and internationally. Some of these are:

  • The Order of Jamaica (OJ);
  • The Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD);
  • The University of the West Indies’ Pelican Award;
  • The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research;
  • The Albert Shanker Education Award (Brazil).

Professor the Honourable Errol Laurence Miller, OJ, CD, comes to the Mico University College, as Chancellor, with a wealth of knowledge in order to make a significant contribution to the President’s vision of taking The Mico University College to a full-fledged University, and thus become the centre of excellence in teacher-education in the region.
He is married to Sharon, herelf a Mico graduate, and has two sons and a daughter.
